Aston Villa striker Wesley is making positive progress in his recovery from a long-term injury.
The 23-year-old has missed almost the entire year with cruciate ligament damage, having picked up the injury against Burnley on January 2nd.
It has been a long road for Wesley, but a post on Villa’s official Twitter account on Thursday showed him in training, with the caption “step-by-step” above it.

It appears as though Wesley’s comeback is drawing closer, acting as a huge boost to Dean Smith.

Wesley wasn’t necessarily setting the world alight before his injury – he only scored six goals in 22 appearances last season – but he was still a big-money signing and much is expected of him.
Not only that, but the Brazilian can come in and rival Ollie Watkins for a starting berth at Villa, improving the depth in the squad and giving Smith a healthy selection headache.
This is going to be a relentless season, with matches coming thick and fast, so the more options at Smith’s disposal the better.
The severity of cruciate ligament injury is undeniable, however, so Wesley must not be rushed back upon his return, and needs to be managed very carefully.
