Some fans criticise Trezeguet after “embarrassing” miss

Aston Villa lost 2-1 to West Ham United on Monday night and should have come away with at least a draw after missing so many opportunities. Ollie Watkins hit the crossbar with a late penalty, but Trezeguet had a point-blank effort saved before them which could have levelled the game.

After being picked out by Jack Grealish in a swift counter attack, Watkins squared the ball to the 26-year-old in the box, but he mishit his shot and left West Ham off the hook.

The Egyptian international arrived at Villa Park in July 2019 from Kasimpasa and has gone on to make 51 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and supplying five assists. Trezeguet has made 10 appearances across the board this season without scoring a goal and has fired blanks in the Premier League for nearly five months.

The 26-year-old has had 22 shots in nine league games, hitting the target only six times (once every 120 minutes). It’s a pitiful goal contribution ratio and needs to be improved if he wants to stay in the team.

Trezeguet hasn’t been prolific since joining the Villans and these fans weren’t too kind over his “embarrassing” failure to equalise from Watkins’ cross:

In other news, one Aston Villa star came in for criticism over a “pathetic” moment in Monday’s defeat to West Ham
