David Ornstein of The Athletic believes Tyreik Wright could be granted a loan move away in January to boost his development with competitive football.
The 19-year-old, who played Gaelic football in his youth like Jack Grealish, has been a regular for Aston Villa U23s this season and would benefit from playing at senior level with another club, although it remains to be seen where he’ll end up.
Wright joined Villa from Lakewood in 2018 and has gone on to make 17 appearances for the U18s, scoring five goals with two assists. He’s made 32 appearances for the U23s, scoring four goals with six assists.
And for the Republic of Ireland, the wide-man has scored two goals in 13 games for the U17s, one goal in three games for the U18s and five goals in nine games for the U19s.
With Grealish, Trezeguet, Anwar El Ghazi and Bertrand Traore for competition, it’s unlikely Wright will be making Villa’s first-team this season, so a loan move may suit all parties.
Ornstein noted that Villa opted against sending him out in the last two transfer windows, instead promoting him to the first-team, but they’ve now warmed to the idea.
Time will tell what interest arises from the Football League.
In other news, one Aston Villa youngster is attracting ‘increased interest’ from several clubs.
