Aston Villa face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, but one player who looks unlikely to feature is Keinan Davis, according to Birmingham Live.
The 22-year-old picked up an ankle injury in November which kept him out of Villa’s defeats against Brighton and West Ham, and Dean Smith has now played down the striker’s chances of facing Wolves.
The manager said: “Keinan Davis is back training. Whether he’ll be in the squad for Saturday might be too soon. He’s only done a couple of days with us so we’ll monitor him and see how he is. He’s back training.”
With Ollie Watkins scoring eight goals in 12 games this season, Davis wouldn’t have been starting in attack anyway. Bertrand Traore has made seven Premier League appearances since joining Villa, too, so he’s also ahead of Davis in the pecking order.
The 22-year-old has made four appearances across the board in 2020/21, scoring one goal and supplying one assist.

Davis’ last outing came in October’s Carabao Cup defeat to Stoke City and his only league appearance was in September. He’s mostly been an unused substitute this season, so he won’t be missed. [Transfermarkt]
Villa were even considering loaning him out when the winter transfer window opened, so his long-term future in the Midlands may be uncertain. Villa surely wouldn’t let Davis go without bringing in a replacement, but few would argue that they may need an upgrade on the 22-year-old.
In other news, Aston Villa could welcome back one player from injury this weekend after a lengthy spell out of action.
