After months of speculation over his future, Fabio Borini has joined Fatih Karagümrük S.K.
The 29-year-old has been linked with Aston Villa numerous times in recent months but has opted for the Turkish Super Lig instead. His move to Karagümrük is intriguing, however, as he looked set to join a divisional rival for weeks.
In October, Borini told Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) that Everton and Liverpool rejected his plea to join their train session due to Covid-19, so he was forced to keep fit in a Merseyside park. In November, Sarikirmizi claimed thatdiscussions between Göztepe and Borini had occurred and a deal was in the offing. However, he has now been confirmed a Karagümrük player.
Borini will now link up with a former Villa player – Eric Lichaj joined the Turkish top-flight outfit on a one-year deal over the summer and has been a regular ever since. The Italian striker will hope he can make a similar impact at the Vefa Stadium as his career has fallen by the wayside.

After leaving Sunderland for AC Milan in 2017, Borini scored just eight goals in 75 games for the Rossoneri and was eventually released to Hellas Verona in January 2020. The Italian international scored three times in 14 games last season before being released at the end of the campaign.
Villa may consider themselves lucky they didn’t end up signing him, judging by his ailing fortunes in Italy…
In other news, Aston Villa have been dealt an injury setback ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Burnley.
