With Keinan Davis struggling for game-time and Wesley Moraes slowly recovering from a long-term knee injury, Aston Villa could do with a striker to accompany Ollie Watkins.
Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard was one player on their wish list as he has scored 70 goals and made 33 assists in 147 games for the Hoops, but Gregg Evans of The Athletic claimed that a deal doesn’t seem to be on the cards due to his lofty asking price and strong interest from AC Milan.
The 22-year-old has won three Scottish Premierships, three Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups in his two years at Parkhead, but his future is uncertain.
Edouard, who Neil Lennon described as ‘talismanic’, has scored nine goals and supplied two assists in 19 games across the board this season. However, he has been criticised for his inconsistency as Celtic struggle in their bid to retain the Premiership title.
READ ASTON VILLA VERDICT
Lennon’s side currently sit second in the Premiership, 16 points adrift of Rangers with three games in hand. They’ve scored 13 fewer goals than Steven Gerrard’s side and have conceded nine more goals, so Celtic’s pursuit of a 10th consecutive league crown is in some jeopardy.
Edouard could well leave in that case, but Evans has seemed to rule out Villa’s chances of making a move for him. It appears that ship has sailed for Dean Smith.
In other news, Aston Villa could go back in for a reported summer target in January.
