Jack Grealish is having an outstanding season at Aston Villa, scoring five goals and supplying six assists in 13 Premier League games (WhoScored), but he doesn’t have the best supporting act behind him.
Anwar El Ghazi has managed three goals in six league games, Trezeguet has just one assist in nine games and Bertrand Traore has one goal and two assists in 10 games, so Gregg Evans of The Athletic believes that Dean Smith could bring in another winger in January.
Among the names he put forward as a candidate was Manchester United’s Daniel James. The 23-year-old has an uncertain future at Old Trafford as he has been short of form and playing time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but is he good enough for Villa?

James has made 53 appearances in all competitions since joining the Red Devils for £18m from Swansea City in 2019, scoring six goals and supplying seven assists. He has found himself on the periphery in his second season at Old Trafford, however, amassing only 371 minutes of football across the board.
In his four Premier League outings this season, James has completed only two successful dribbles, had three shots on target and has yet to record an accurate cross (Sofascore).
Therefore, he does not seem an improvement on what Villa already have and Smith should look elsewhere if he wants to bring in a winger next month.
In other news, Evans has recommended a Ligue 1 hotshot as a possible signing for Aston Villa.
