Aston Villa are within touching distance of signing Morgan Sanson and could confirm the transfer within the next 24 hours, according to La Provence (via Sport Witness).
The 26-year-old Marsille midfielder was expected to have finalised his move to Villa on Monday, but his entourage have said it will go through this evening or perhaps tomorrow.
Dean Smith has spoken out about the matter, telling Sky Sports (via Villa Report): “There’s an inbound very close, pending a medical and visa situation such is Brexit now. We’re waiting on that before we can confirm anything.”

Conor Hourihane was sent to Swansea City on loan last week and Villa are seemingly closing in on a real upgrade in midfield. Sanson could challenge John McGinn, Douglas Luiz and Ross Barkley for a starting place before long, given his well-rounded midfield skill set.

With rumours of Sanson’s arrival intensifying, Smith saying that an inbound is “very close” and referencing Brexit, France-based midfielder Sanson could logically be the “inbound” to whom the manager is referring. This is backed up by Ed Aarons’ tweet that the 26-year-old “is on his way to the UK today to complete his move to Aston Villa”.

It remains to be seen whether the Frenchman is the last piece of business Villa complete this month, as Smith would seemingly like a striker to take the scoring burden off Ollie Watkins while Wesley Moraes is recovering from his serious injury.
Nevertheless, bringing Sanson to Villa Park is a real coup as he was on the radar of Tottenham and Arsenal only months ago. Football Whispers once regarded Sanson as a Premier League star in the making, too, so he should be an exciting acquisition once this seemingly inevitable deal is completed.
