Keinan Davis is in a difficult position as the January transfer window reaches its conclusion. The 22-year-old isn’t commanding a starting place at Aston Villa but won’t be granted a departure as he is the only currently available centre-forward backup to Ollie Watkins.
Davis would benefit from regular playing time and had interest from Bristol City among other Championship clubs this month, but Villa’s stance has resigned the Robins to defeat.
Their manager Dean Holden recently told Bristol Live: “Keinan Davis won’t be leaving Aston Villa in this transfer window. He’s obviously a very good player and he played against us in that Carabao Cup at the start of the season and did some damage to us from what I remember, but he won’t be coming down from Villa.”

Davis hasn’t shown himself to be a prolific striker, scoring only five goals in 75 games for Villa, but he may his own better in the Championship than the Premier League, having yet to score in the top flight.
The 22-year-old has amassed only 48 minutes of Premier League football this season, while Watkins has started every game and is yet to even be substituted, so does Smith risk unsettling Davis by denying him a move?
Wesley Moraes is likely to push the out-of-form and out-of-favour striker down the pecking order when he returns from long-term injury, so the second half of the campaign could see Davis pushed even further out to the periphery.
With Bristol City conceding defeat on trying to sign him, the immediate outlook doesn’t seem great for the striker.
