Ross Barkley has impressed while on loan at Aston Villa and could turn the move permanent at the end of the season, but the 27-year-old’s reported asking price has turned heads.
Chelsea are requesting £40m for Barkley, a player on the periphery at Stamford Bridge who cost them £15m in 2018 and whose Transfermarkt value has actually decreased since then.
Barkley has made 12 appearances in all competitions for Villa this season, scoring three goals and supplying one assist. The England international suffered a hamstring injury in November which kept him out until mid-January and his form has been inconsistent since returning, so several supporters are even more opposed to paying £40m than they may initially have been.
Many Villa fans don’t want the club to entertain Chelsea’s demands, feeling that £40m is “too much” for the 27-year-old, and believe there is better value to be found in the transfer market.

not consistent enough for 40 mil, when he's having a good day he looks a 40 mil player but doesn't have a good day often enough. 25 mil would be worth it.

If they want £40m jus shows they aren’t even watchin how hes been this season! Tryin to recoup money by looks of it if he was worth £40m they wouldn’t of let him go on loan in the first place..dont think we wil blow a big portion of our budget on him..should be about squad depth!

Yeh, that's not the way to blow 40 mil. I prefered us with Jack in that position tbh. A lot has been made of thier link up play but my socks haven't been blown off by it. Prefer to spend on another Awsome left winger and move jack back in the middle.

I don’t think the club will get him, after hearing DS he seems to be aware he will leave at the end of the season. We won’t be able to sell him on, so not a logical move for the clubs transfer policy

I think our scouting team is a lot sharper than to pay 40 mil for a player that’s been largely inconsistent. It’s not hard to see why Barkley hasn’t made it at Chelsea. He just doesn’t want to work hard enough. Has all the ability, but lacks the desire and attitude.
