Mbwana Samatta has an uncertain future after struggling for form while on loan at Fenerbahce and could be on the hunt for his third club in less than year, as reported by Aspor.
The 28-year-old joined Aston Villa on a five-year deal from KRC Genk in January 2020 and went on to make 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals. He was loaned out to Fenerbahce in September, with the Istanbul club agreeing to pay £5.5m to turn the move permanent at the end of the season.
Samatta’s stint at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium hasn’t gone to plan, however, with the Tanzanian scoring only five goals in 20 games across the board. Aspor claimed that ‘he will be replaced’ after performing ‘far below expectations’, so Fener are planning for life without the 28-year-old next season.
Papiss Cisse is breathing down his neck as he has scored the same number of Super Lig goals for Fenerbahce as the Villa loanee in fewer minutes, so time will tell whether Samatta keeps his place for the remainder of the season.

Nothing changes for Villa. They will still get their money for the 28-year-old, but Samatta could be on the move for the third consecutive summer transfer window and will hope he can turn his form around after a disappointing two years.
What his miserable stint in Turkey has shown is that they perhaps made the right call with the loan-to-buy agreement with Fenerbahce for a striker whose career has nosedived over the last 13 months.
