Jack Grealish is having a fantastic season at Aston Villa, scoring six goals and supplying 10 assists in 22 Premier League games (WhoScored), and he has an illustrious admirer in Arsene Wenger.
The former Arsenal manager, who won three Premier League titles with the club, praised the 25-year-old when discussing Manchester City’s Phil Foden on beINSPORT, saying that the England international team-mates make for a formidable midfield duo.
Wenger gushed: “I like Grealish. (He) masters well (playing) slow and quick. Can dribble, has composure (and) is very creative in his passing. (He and Phil Foden) are a great pair.”
Grealish is one of the best playmakers in the Premier League and one of the most efficient attacking players in Europe, with 75 chances created and 61 successful dribbles (WhoScored), so Wenger’s praise is warranted.
The England international is averaging a goal or assist every 110 minutes in the league and hasn’t gone more than two games without contributing (Transfermarkt), so his stock couldn’t be higher right now.
As things stand, Grealish is surely a shoo-in to make the England squad for this summer’s European Championships and could start under Gareth Southgate too, so his future looks bright.
READ ASTON VILLA VERDICT
Villa have Grealish tied down for another four-and-a-half years, so they’ve done brilliantly to protect their greatest asset.
No Premier League player has created more chances (75) or won more freekicks (100), while only two players have more successful dribbles (61) and one player more assists (10) (WhoScored), so there aren’t many more productive players than Grealish right now.
The sky is the limit and it’s easy to see why Wenger is quite excited about this genius of a player.
