The last time Aston Villa beat Tottenham Hotspur in North London

Aston Villa travel to North London to face Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening and go into the game as major underdogs given recent form and their one-sided head-to-head record.

Villa have lost their last six meetings with Spurs, conceding two or more goals in every clash, so Read Aston Villa had to go back some way to find their last away win over the Lilywhites.

On April 11 in 2015, Villa pulled off a 1-0 victory at Tottenham, courtesy of a 35th minute header from Christian Benteke. Spurs were seventh while Villa were 15th, so the win was more than a shock.

Head-to-heads between the two sides have been very one-sided down the years – Spurs have won 14 and drawn three of their last 18 meetings with Villa. Regardless of form leading into the fixture, the outcome is always the same – Villa have beaten Tottenham only once since 2008.

Spurs can only consolidate sixth place while Villa will finish the day 11th regardless of the result, so there isn’t a lot riding on the midweek meeting.

In other news, two Aston Villa players make their only England cap 70 years apart
