John Terry has left Aston Villa after three years as assistant manager, confirming his departure on Monday. The 40-year-old played his part in Villa’s best Premier League return for a decade last season and is now focused on being a manager in his own right.
Terry has been showered with praise on social media from players, past and present. Many supporters also hailed his achievements as a coach at Villa, so the 40-year-old reposted their well-wishes on his Instagram story and now has dozens upon dozens of pictures.

Villa has been a memorable moment of Terry’s career. He spent the last year of his playing career at Villa Park and helped them to the Championship playoff final which they lost to Fulham. He retired as a player that same summer but returned to coach alongside then-new manager Dean Smith.
And in his first season as a coach, the Villans were promoted back to the Premier League. Terry’s second season saw him play a part in Villa consolidating in the top-flight. And his third season saw them post their best PL return, so he’s been a terrific servant.
Where he’ll go next remains to be seen.
