Louie Barry is rated highly at Aston Villa and looks to have a bright future after impressing at youth level, but he’ll be developing away from the Midlands this season as first-team football under Dean Smith is still out of reach.
The 18-year-old made his debut for Ipswich Town in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup defeat to Newport County and marked the occasion with an Instagram post.
Barry, who began his career at West Bromwich Albion and then Barcelona, has made eight appearances for Villa’s U18s, scoring eight goals with four assists.
The England youth international featured 19 times for the U23s, scoring 14 goals with one assist. He bagged in his only senior appearance for Villa too, so he knows where the back of the net is.
But with Ollie Watkins, new-boy Danny Ings, Wesley Moraes and Keinan Davis likely standing in his way of getting first-team football, Barry has opted to join Ipswich for the season to get more opportunities.
He was given 64 minutes in the Carabao Cup, so time will tell he fares moving forward.
