Douglas Luiz missed Aston Villa’s 3-2 defeat to Watford after being granted a break following a busy summer of international football, but he’s now returned to training and will be in contention to feature against Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
The 23-year-old was named in Brazil’s 24-man squad for the 2021 Copa America and helped them reach the final. The tournament ended on July 10 and Luiz was then named in Brazil’s 22-man squad for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and helped them win a Gold medal.
But now the midfielder is available for domestic duty, he marked the occasion with a post on Instagram. Luiz is fired up to play for Villa again and will have been missed after the Watford defeat, so this is great news for Dean Smith, the players and supporters.
Marvelous Nakamba partnered John McGinn in midfield against the Hornets but may be taken out of the spotlight for Luiz if Smith believes him to be fit enough to start. Regardless, it’s good news that he’s back at Bodymoor Heath and available for selection.
In other news, some excitement on social media as Aston Villa retain interest in Todd Cantwell
