Danny Ings’ arrival from Southampton was bad news for Keinan Davis and Wesley Moraes. The 29-year-old was signed to take the scoring burden off Ollie Watkins, meaning Dean Smith would likely overlook his backup options even more this season.
Davis’ hopes of landing a loan move to Stoke City were ended after he picked up an injury, but Wesley did manage to bag himself a temporary move away. The 24-year-old has returned to Club Brugge for the season and posted on his Instagram story after the deal was confirmed.

Wesley joined Villa from Brugge in 2019 and has gone on to make 26 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals with one assist. The Brazilian international suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his debut season that kept him out for over a year.
He’s not been the same player since he returned, however, which is why Smith plumped for Ings and has allowed Wesley to be loaned out, so his long-term future at Villa Park is uncertain. Nevertheless, the striker is excited to be back at his former club and will hope to impress with more first-team football.
