Douglas Luiz joined Aston Villa on a four-year deal from Manchester City in 2019 and has gone on to make 81 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals with seven assists.
The 23-year-old has impressed at Villa and is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League, so it’s no surprise that he’s attracted interest from clubs overseas.
Calciomercato say AS Roma are keen on Luiz after offloading Steven Nzonzi to Qatari outfit Al-Rayyan SC. Villa are keen to keep the Brazilian international, however, so it remains to be seen if Roma’s pursuit are successful. Fans on social media aren’t humouring the transfer rumour either.
Supporters don’t want to see Luiz leave Villa and don’t believe Roma will match his asking price. The 23-year-old cost Villa £15m two years ago but has a market value of £31.5m now. And with Luiz having two more years remaining on his deal, there’s no rush to cash in.
The Brazilian hasn’t given any indication that he wants out of Villa either, so this story may not lead to Roma landing his signature.
