Steven Gerrard is having a lot of success trusting in Aston Villa’s young talent of late. Jacob Ramsey scored a brilliant solo goal in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Norwich City while Carney Chukwuemeka bagged an assist from the bench.
Frank McAvennie believes he and Gary McAllister will find the ‘next Jack Grealish’ from Villa’s academy as they’re willing to give youngsters opportunities.
The Villans also have Aaron Ramsey, Jaden Philogene-Bidace, Caleb Chukwuemeka and Cameron Archer who have been given minutes this season, so Gerrard won’t need the transfer window to bolster his squad.
McAvennie told Football Insider: “There will be a rise in young talents at Villa. With Gerrard and McAllister there, they know a player when they see one. We saw that at Rangers.
“(Young players) might have to wait for their chance (at Villa) but they will get it. That is a really exciting and amazing thing. If they are good enough they will get a chance. We saw that the other night and those players backed him up.
“That next Jack Grealish is probably there, in the youth ranks somewhere. Gerrard will make the right decisions and give chances to those players.” Jacob Ramsey has been Villa’s most-used youngster, making 15 Premier League appearances this season, while Carney Chukwuemeka is second with six games at senior level.
In addition to having John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Marvelous Nakamba and Morgan Sanson, Villa are blessed with so much talent in midfield. Gerrard, as a former midfielder himself, will be delighted with his options.
Archer is breathing down Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings’ neck while Philogene-Bidace has made the bench at times after impressing in the reserves.
