Jacob Ramsey has been in fantastic form for Aston Villa this season, culminating in a wonderful solo goal in the Villans’ 2-0 win over Norwich City on Tuesday evening. The 20-year-old has been a regular under Steven Gerrard and Kevin Phillips believes the Villa manager is to thank for his impressive performances.
He told Football Insider: “He is definitely benefitting from the coaching of one of the Premier League’s greatest ever midfielders. It is most certainly helping. You have to give most of the credit to the player though.
“It is not easy to put into practice the information the staff are trying to give you. He is clearly listening and taking on board what he’s being told.” Ramsey is featuring heavily under Gerrard since he replaced Dean Smith, but his rise to prominence is no surprise given his form at youth level.
The England U21 international scored 16 goals with four assists from 38 games for the U18s, scored eight goals with seven assists from 27 games for the U23s and scored three goals in seven games on loan at Doncaster Rovers (2019/20).
Ramsey gone on to make 43 appearances in all competitions for Villa, so Gerrard already had an experienced talent on his hands upon his arrival.
Fans will be hoping the fine form continues when Villa host Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
Ramsey, who has four years remaining on his deal, should keep his place after featuring in 15/17 league games this season and starting in five of their last six.
