Aston Villa suffered an injury blow to Marvelous Nakamba ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Burnley. The Villans confirmed on Friday that the 27-year-old would be out of action for up to four months following knee surgery, so Nakamba will now miss most of the season.
It’s a real blow for Villa as Nakamba had been in fine form prior to the setback. He was getting regular playing time under Steven Gerrard and flourished when called upon, but now the Midlands outfit will have to cope without him. Fans on social media were understandably upset about the news.
Nakamba joined Villa on a five-year deal from Club Brugge and has gone on to make 64 appearances on all competitions. The Zimbabwean international struggled in his debut season but has proved his worth in the last 18 months. Nakamba has delivered some outstanding performances for both Dean Smith and his successor Steven Gerrard, but Villa will have to cope without him.
Douglas Luiz, John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey make up a talented midfield, but Nakamba was expert at turning over possession and retaining the ball, so Morgan Sanson has big shoes to fill if he’s given the nod.
