Axel Tuanzebe has an uncertain future at Aston Villa as he’s been short of form and playing time this season. The 24-year-old impressed during two past loan spells from Manchester United (January 2018 – May 2018) (August 2018 – May 2019), but he’s not had the same effect this time and supporters on social media believe he should be offloaded when the winter transfer window opens.
Elliott Jude: “Defo let go. (He’s) not as good as Mings, Konsa or Hause. We need another CB for cover but better than him.”
James Oneill: “Get rid.”
Liam Anderson: “Let go, buy another, but also keep Hause.”
Mathew Busby: “Let him go back. Let one of our up-and-coming players get a chance.”
Ian Lamb: “Time to say goodbye.”
Nigel Jones: “Tough one. Decent squad player, but (I) think we should now be aiming higher.”
Neil Antony Woodroffe: “Go. Sorry, not good enough.”
Guy Pearson: “Let go as he is not getting played atm.”
Tuanzebe has made 11/20 appearances in all competitions this campaign, amassing 685 minutes from a possible 1800. He finds himself behind Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa in the pecking order while having Kortney Hause breathing down his neck, but Gregg Evans of The Athletic says Villa won’t let him go in January.
Tuanzebe’s exit would require a replacement to be located in only 30 days, so it makes little sense letting a squad player leave if he’s useful. The 24-year-old has only amassed eight minutes of Premier League football since mid-November, spending most weeks as an unused substitute, but he’s proven reliable in the past and is worth keeping for the remaining months of his loan.
