Wesley Moraes is surplus to requirements at Aston Villa and became surplus to requirements while on loan at former side Club Brugge, so ESPN Brasil say his stint is being cut short in Belgium so he can join Sao Paulo until the end of the season.
Fans weren’t too upset to hear of the 25-year-old’s impending departure as he’s played for Villa just once in six months, but supporters on social media would prefer Wesley be sold rather than loaned out again so they can make some money back.
Paul Craythorne: “Biggest waste of money ever!”
Greg Walker: “Can’t we just sell him?”
Dave B Keen: “What a criminal waste of money. He never looked anything near worth that (money).”
Anthony Jackson: “Sell and get of the wage bill. He couldn’t hit a barn door with a cannon anyway.”
Kevin Denscombe: “Can we not sell instead if he’s not going to feature.”
Wesley has made 26 appearances in all competitions for Villa since joining on a five-year deal from Club Brugge in 2019, scoring six goals with one assist, but he hasn’t found the back of the net since January 2020.
His temporary return to Belgium hasn’t gone to plan, however, as Wesley is without a goal or assist in seven games, so his career is spiralling. The Brazilian international has endured a long-term knee injury and is still building up his fitness, so he needs to join a club willing to give him regular opportunities.
Steven Gerrard has Danny Ings, Ollie Watkins, Cameron Archer and Keinan Davis at his disposal, so he’s unlikely to miss Wesley. Villa may try to cash in on him at the end of the season.
