Journalists say ‘quiet’ Coutinho was ‘non-existent’ v Arsenal

Aston Villa suffered their second consecutive Premier League defeat on Saturday afternoon, losing 1-0 to Arsenal at home, and Philippe Coutinho put in another disappointing display.

The 29-year-old was quiet in Villa’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham United and didn’t set the place alight against the Gunners either, failing to score or make an assist in both games.

Cole Pettem of 7500 to Holte gave Coutinho a player rating 4/10 and said he was ‘basically invisible’ at Villa Park. Matt Maher of the Express and Star gave the Brazilian international a player rating of 5/10 and called his performance ‘quiet’. Ashley Preece of Birmingham Live gave the playmaker 5/10 and said he was ‘non-existent’. Tom Gott of 90min gave Coutinho a player rating of 5/10 and said he was dropping too deep to get the ball which wasn’t helping.

Against Arsenal, Coutinho played for 90 minutes, had 54 touches, completed 87.5% of his 40 passes, created one chance, had one shot which hit the target, whipped in four crosses with 50% finding a teammate, made two tackles, gave away one foul and made one interception.

Coutinho has been fantastic while on loan at Villa, scoring four goals with three assists in 10 Premier League appearances, but his last two performances have left a lot to be desired.
