Villa exit hasn’t gone well for El Ghazi

Anwar El Ghazi found himself out of favour at Aston Villa this season and opted for a loan move away in January to get more playing time, but his decision to join Everton for the second half of the campaign hasn’t gone well.

The 26-year-old has struggled for playing time under Frank Lampard and has featured less on Merseyside than he did in the Midlands, so he must be regretting the switch.

El Ghazi made 9/20 Premier League appearances at Villa this season, amassing 383 minutes of football from a possible 1800. The Netherlands international found himself behind Emiliano Buendia, Leon Bailey, Bertrand Traore and Phillipe Coutinho in the pecking order, so he sought first-team football elsewere.

El Ghazi has only made 2/10 Premier League appearances for Everton, however, amassing just 11 minutes of top-flight football from a possible 900. He’s already been dropped from the starting eleven or matchday squad seven times and hasn’t featured in over a month, so this loan has gone south very fast.

The 26-year-old is due to return to Villa Park this summer and has one year remaining on his deal, so the Midlands outfit might look to cash in early rather than risk losing him for nothing.
