Aston Villa suffered a 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday and Leon Bailey was one of many players who underperformed. The 24-year-old was given his first Premier League start of 2022, but Ashley Preece of Birmingham Live gave Bailey a player rating of 3/10 and Matt Maher of the Express and Star gave him a player rating of 5/10, so it clearly didn’t go well.
Not only did the Jamaican international underperform at Molineux, he’s been below-par all season and may have an uncertain future at Villa Park as a result. Bailey has struggled for form and fitness since his £25m move from Bayer Leverkusen, so it remains to be seen if he’ll keep his place against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The 24-year-old has made 15 league appearances this season, scoring one goal with two assists. He’s started only five games and has been substituted in four of them, so Bailey hasn’t made any impact in the Midlands yet. He’s created just one chance and whipped in just one accurate cross in his last seven games and has failed to complete a dribble in four of his previous six outings.
With Emiliano Buendia and Bertrand Traore available, might Steven Gerrard take Bailey out of the starting lineup already?
