Aston Villa suffered a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening and Ezri Konsa was one of many players who underperformed. The 24-year-old started alongside Tyrone Mings at centre-back but was somewhat culpable for all four of Spurs’ goals.
Konsa botched his header in the build-up to Tottenham’s opening goal from Son Heung-min, was beaten to the ball in the build-up to Spurs’ second goal from Dejan Kulusevski, was again beaten to the ball in the build-up to their third goal and he didn’t get tight enough to Son in the penalty area when trying to block his shot.
Ashley Preece of Birmingham Live gave Konsa a player rating of 3/10 and said Calum Chambers could replace him in their next game. Jude Summerfield of 90min gave the 24-year-old a player rating of 3/10 and called his performance ‘poor’. Cole Pettem of 7500toHolte gave him a player rating of 3/10, saying he delivered ‘one of the worst performances’ at centre-back while ‘struggling’ to cope with Tottenham’s movement.
Against Spurs, Konsa played for 90 minutes, had 58 touches, failed to make a tackle, won one aerial duel, failed to make an interception, completed 100% of his 49 passes, had two shots, made one clearance and blocked two shots. Whether he gets to redeem himself in Villa’s next outing remains to be seen.
