Aston Villa enjoyed a 2-0 win over Norwich City on Saturday afternoon and Tyrone Mings was one of many players who impressed. The 29-year-old started alongside Calum Chambers at centre-back and limited Norwich to three shots on target over the 90 minutes.
No Villa player had more interceptions than Mings and no Villa player had more clearances either. Teemu Pukki didn’t have a shot for Norwich all afternoon, so Mings and co. deserved the plaudits.
John Townley of Birmingham Live gave the England international a player rating of 8/10, saying he was a ‘dominating presence’ and ‘impressive’ at the back. Toby Cudworth of 90min gave Mings a player rating of 6/10 and said he was ‘confident’ at centre-back while not being challenged too much at Villa Park.
Against Norwich, Mings had 42 touches, completed 63.6% of his 33 passes, made three interceptions, had three clearances and was fouled three times. The 29-year-old has made 32 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal with three assists.
Mings has come in for criticism from supporters for his inconsistency, but he was solid against Norwich and helped Villa pick up all three points.
