Trezeguet could be on his way out of Aston Villa this summer after Ekrem Konur revealed on Wednesday that Trabzonspor are in talks over signing the 27-year-old. Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Basaksehir have been credited with an interest too, so the writing is on the wall for Egyptian international.
Steven Gerrard needs to sell Trezeguet this summer as his contract is up in 2023 and no deal is on the horizon after he fell down the pecking order. The 27-year-old has made just one appearance for Villa in 14 months and has been replaced by Leon Bailey and Bertrand Traore, so a move away would benefit all parties.
Trezeguet joined Villa on a four-year deal from Kasimpasa in 2019, setting Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens back £9m. He’s gone on to make 64 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals with five assists, but he tailed off after his debut season at Villa Park.
The 27-year-old scored just two goals with two assists from 22 games in 2020/21 and barely featured this season due to injury, so he was loaned out Istanbul Basaksehir in February after he recovered. And with six goals and four assists from 13 Super Lig games, Trezeguet has put himself in the shop window.
He has a market value of £9m, but NSWE won’t make all that money back. Basaksehir haven’t spent more than £4.3m on a player, Trezeguet will be a free transfer next year and £7.3m has been spent on his £47k-per-week wages, so Villa will have to accept a loss.
