Cameron Archer could be in and around the Aston Villa first-team next season after impressing out on loan, but Steven Gerrard has a difficult decision to make after Alex Crook of talkSPORT said Rangers, Middlesbrough and Watford are interested in the 20-year-old.
Archer has risen through the youth ranks to Villa’s first-team, scoring two goals with one assist from 17 games for the U18s and scoring 17 goals with seven assists from 36 games for the U23s. He’s scored four goals from six games at senior level, so his future looks bright in the Midlands.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Preston North End (2022), scoring seven goals with one assist from 20 games, so he’s proven himself in the Championship.
Archer might struggle for playing time with Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings ahead in the pecking order, however, so another loan move wouldn’t be the worst thing. It’s a big step-up to the Premier League, so regular football at a lower level is better than him sitting on the bench all season.
Gerrard is on the hunt for another striker this summer too, so Archer might not get much of a look-in with all the competition.
