Wesley Moraes remains on the books at Aston Villa but has an uncertain future after another failed loan spell away. Ashley Preece of Birmingham Live says his stint in Brazil could be cut short as a unnamed Spanish club are interested in loaning him.
Steven Gerrard would no doubt love to sell the 25-year-old permanently, but clubs aren’t going to pay as his stock couldn’t be lower. Wesley suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January 2020 which ended his debut season short at Villa and he’s only managed a handful of appearances ever since. Wesley was loaned out to get more regular playing time as a result, re-joining Club Brugge (August 2021 – December 2021) and being sent to Internacional (January 2022 – present) more recently, but his temporary stints away haven’t gone to plan.
He failed to score in six games for the Belgians and netted just two goals in 18 games for the Brazilians, so Villa don’t stand a chance of making back the £22.5m spent in 2019. Wesley has two years remaining on his deal in the Midlands and isn’t likely to be handed an extension, so Gerrard only has a few transfer windows left to cash in.
In other news, Steven Gerrard didn’t need to sign Ludwig Augustinsson
