Aaron Ramsey may not stay in Aston Villa first-team

Aaron Ramsey has an uncertain future at Aston Villa this summer as he’s on the fringes of the first-team but may not get opportunities under Steven Gerrard when the new season starts due to stiff competition for places.

The 19-year-old was left out of the matchday squad for Villa’s 4-0 win over Walsall on July 9 but played 45 minutes in their 1-0 win over Leeds United on July 17.

Steven Gerrard was pleased that ‘academy boys’ got playing time and said he plans to give other players opportunities in Wednesday’s friendly. That could mean Ramsey features against Brisbane Roar.

The England U19 international will be desperate to impress, but it’s unlikely that he’ll stay in the first-team when the season starts. Ramsey made just one appearance for Villa in 2021/22, so he was loaned out to Cheltenham Town.

He made 15 appearances for the League One side, scoring one goal with one assist, so it’s hard to see him making the leap to the Premier League this coming campaign.

And with Jacob Ramsey, Philippe Coutinho and Emiliano Buendia standing in his way of getting playing time, another loan move away might be best for his career.

In other news, who is Aston Villa’s transfer target Raúl de Tomás?
