Danny Ings could have been on his way out of Aston Villa this summer when Steven Gerrard was on the hunt for another striker, but no acceptable offers came the 30-year-old’s way and no upgrade was procure in the transfer market, so Ings looks set to stay.
Transfer expert Dean Jones says it’s not a 100% guarantee that Ings will remain at Villa Park, as Gerrard could cash in for lucrative money, but the England international isn’t clamouring for an exit. He told Give Me Sport: “I’d say there’s still some uncertainty over Danny Ings’ future.
“Unless a really tempting offer comes in for him, I think he would prefer to remain part of this project and prove that he’s capable of living up to the hype.” Ings has made 31 appearances in all competitions for Villa, scoring seven goals with six assists.
Eighteen of Ings’ 41 shots in the penalty area hit the target last season and only seven rippled the back of the net in 30 league outings, so the 30-year-old left a lot to be desired. He has two years remaining on his deal at Villa Park and is likely to see them out unless something drastic happens in the transfer market.
Ings cost Villa £26.5m last summer and earns £120k-per-week/£6.2m-a-year, so there isn’t going to be much interest if he isn’t firing. Gerrard will be hoping the England international can find his form this coming campaign. It makes little sense selling when no replacement has been lined up.
