Jacob Ramsey was outstanding for Aston Villa in 2021/22, culminating in him being named Players’ Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season. The 21-year-old scored six goals with one assist from 34 Premier League games, creating 21 chances and having 30 successful dribbles.
Ramsey hasn’t managed to pick up where he left off, however, as he’s without a goal or assist from three league appearances this season and isn’t putting in enough good performances.
The England U21 international struggled in the 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth and underwhelmed in the 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace. He’s tidy in possession (92.8% pass completion) and is turning over the ball in midfield (5 tackles, 3 interceptions), but he’s not showing the same attacking prowess as last season.
Ramsey is 8th in the Villa squad for shots taken (2) and is third for most unsuccessful dribbles (3/6), so it’s clear he needs to work on his decision-making and positioning in the final third. The 21-year-old will be desperate to kick on after a brilliant season, but he’s so far having a slow and unconvincing start.
In other news, when will Ludwig Augustinsson get a game under Steven Gerrard?
