Aston Villa failed to score for the second time in four Premier League games after suffering a 1-0 defeat to West Ham United on Saturday afternoon, but it was for Lucas Digne’s lack of trying.
The 29-year-old started at left-back and did everything in his power to get Villa to score at Villa Park, nearly assisted Ezri Konsa before the goal was disallowed for his corner going out of play.
Digne would go on to create more chances than any of his teammates and he whipped in considerably more balls into the box too. Sadly, the opportunities weren’t tucked away and Villa were shut out in only their second home game of the season.
John Townley of Birmingham Live gave Digne a player rating of 6/10 and said he played much better than against Crystal Palace. Townley praised his attacking instincts, but it wasn’t enough to stop Villa losing for the third time in four league games.
Against West Ham, Digne played for 90 minutes, had 101 touches, won three aerial duels, completed 66.7% of his 63 passes, created three chances, whipped in eight crosses, made one tackle, blocked one shot, made one clearance and won two freekicks.
