Danny Ings struggled to make an impact in Aston Villa’s 1-0 defeat to West Ham United and could be dropped by Steven Gerrard in Wednesday’s meeting with Arsenal. He’s scored one goal in four Premier League games and has picked up more yellow cards (2).
The 30-year-old failed to test the goalkeeper with any of his chances against West Ham and didn’t create any chances for his teammates, so it wouldn’t be a shock if he was taken out of the spotlight. Playing two strikers against a high-flying team like Arsenal would be a catastrophe too.
Ings has made 36 appearances in all competitions since joining Villa from Southampton in 2021, scoring nine goals with seven assists. He’s averaging a goal every four games and an assist every 5.1 games, so the England international isn’t making the desired impact.
Ings did score and assist a goal in the EFL Cup win over Bolton Wanderers which earned himself a starting place against West Ham, but then he struggled to pick up from where he left off. Gerrard might just go with Ollie Watkins as the long striker against the Gunners.
