Aston Villa have seen a lot of players make moves in and out of the Midlands club over recent years, with some big transfer fees being sent here, there and everywhere.
In terms of the incoming transfers that Villa have made in that time, some have proved to be rather successful and seen them become important figures for the club such as Matty Cash, Emi Martinez and Ollie Watkins, to name a few. But there have been others who haven’t been as successful.
One player, in particular, that has not had a successful time at Villa Park that we feel should be moved out of the club whenever possible is Morgan Sanson.
Signed during the 2021 January transfer window from Marseille in a deal worth £16m, the midfielder has only made 20 senior appearances for the Villans, during which he has failed to score one goal or provide one assist.
Having struggled with injuries and illness during his first season as a Villan, which was described as “frustrating” by former Villa manager Dean Smith, who brought the Frenchman to the club, Sanson barely got a look-in last term.
With only 10 league appearances to his name, the 28-year-old only started three of them, and hasn’t made an appearance in the league so far this season.
Even when the midfielder did have a chance to play in the league last season he couldn’t prove that he’s good enough for Villa as he not only was to blame for Manchester United’s second goal in the 2-2 draw at Villa Park back in January, but he also let his frustrations get the better of him by kicking a water bottle after leaving the pitch.
Additionally, his overall performances earned the outcast an uninspiring season rating of 6.34/10 from WhoScored, making him one of the lowest-rated outfield players to start more than one league game for the Midlands club.
Taking all of this into account, we feel the best next step for all parties would be to see Villa and Gerrard move the £48k-per-week midfielder out of the club either in the upcoming January transfer window or next summer and get him somewhere he’d be able to play regularly.
