Aston Villa have recently been linked with a January swap deal that would see Douglas Luiz make a move to Juventus, with Everton striker Moise Kean, who is currently on loan at the Italian club, making a move to Villa Park.
In our view, potentially seeing Johan Lange completing any sort of deal that would end up with Kean becoming a part of Steven Gerrard’s squad would be nothing short of a disaster.
Everton spent an initial fee of £25.1m to bring the striker to Goodison Park back in the 2019 summer transfer window.
With just 39 senior appearances for the Toffees to his name, the 22-year-old, who apparently has a price tag of €35m (£29m), has only managed to score four goals.
After spending a loan spell with Paris Saint-Germain, the centre-forward has been on loan again, this time back at Juventus, since the start of the 2021/22 season, and is expected to stay there until the end of this season.
Last season saw the youngster make 32 Serie A appearances for Juventus but only managed to find the net on five occasions, which shows that he brought the goalscoring inconsistency he had in England back to Italy.
In fact, his overall performances earned the striker a rather dismal season rating of 6.33/10, making him the lowest-rated Juventus player to start more than one league game according to WhoScored.
Having been slammed for his “useless” performances in Italy by journalist Tancredi Palmeri, it’s hard to see how Kean would be a worthwhile addition to Villa’s ranks.
Bearing in mind how Gerrard has the likes of Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings at his disposal, in addition to Cameron Archer, who scored seven goals in 20 Championship appearances on loan with Preston North End last season, adding the Everton outcast to his squad just doesn’t make sense, in our view.
Taking all of this into account, we think any prospect of seeing Luiz get swapped for Kean in January should be dismissed immediately.
