Aston Villa have been linked with a transfer move for Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara.
According to a recent report from TEAMtalk, Villa boss Steven Gerrard could consider making a move for the midfielder, who, according to Football Insider, could be on his way out of Ibrox in January.
The 26-year-old joined Rangers back in the 2019 January transfer window while Gerrard was in charge of the club.
Since then, the Finland international has gone on to make 168 appearances for the Scottish club across all competitions, scoring eight goals and delivering 11 assists along the way.
Last season saw Kamara make 31 SPFL appearances for his current side, during which he managed to rack up the fourth-highest number of interceptions at the club (23) and only saw two other midfielders win more tackles than him (21).
This shows just how much of a capable defensive midfielder he is and the sort of cover he could provide for Villa’s defenders.
Having brought the midfielder to Rangers, Gerrard has previously shared his admiration for the £21k-per-week player by saying this about him back in February 2019 shortly after Kamara arrived at Ibrox.
He said: “He’s a terrific footballer in possession, always playing with his head up and looking to connect defence and attack. But what pleased me most is what I spoke about when we signed him in terms of how he’ll be out of possession.
“Will he hunt the ball back, be aggressive, work hard for the team and be a monster in the middle of the park? He showed signs of that against Kilmarnock and potentially he can become a top midfielder.”
Taking this into account and the fact that current Villa midfielder, Douglas Luiz, has been linked with a move away from the club, perhaps seeing Johan Lange secure a January deal for Kamara would not only land Gerrard his dream signing at Villa Park but also give him a suitable replacement for the Brazilian if he does leave in the near future.
