Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard is reportedly looking to bring a player he is very familiar with to the Midlands club in the near future.
According to a recent report from the Sunday Mirror (via TEAMtalk), the Villa boss is keen on bringing Rangers winger, Ryan Kent, to Villa Park.
The Englishman initially joined the Scottish club on loan back in the 2018 summer transfer window from Liverpool before the Ibrox side secured a permanent deal for him a year later for a fee of £7.5m.
With 185 appearances to his name for Rangers, the 25-year-old has scored 31 goals and delivered 51 assists along the way.
Having made 303 club appearances in total throughout his career at senior and youth levels, Kent has 45 goals and 65 assists to his name.
In six SPFL appearances this season, the former Liverpool figure has found the net on one occasion and supplied four assists, ultimately earning himself an overall performance rating of 7.42/10 from WhoScored, making him the second-highest rated player at Rangers.
He has also racked up the joint-second highest average of key passes per game (2) at the club.
Bearing in mind how only AFC Bournemouth (9.62) have a lower rate of shot-creating actions per 90 minutes in the league this season than Villa (15.62), having a player like Kent, who has shown how capable he is of causing havoc for opposition players and setting up goalscoring opportunities for his teammates could be just what Gerrard needs.
Having played the majority of his club appearances throughout his career under Gerrard, who once described the winger as a “dangerous” player, this could be a match made in heaven for Villa.
Moving forward, if Villa and Johan Lange are able to negotiate a deal with Rangers, who are at risk of seeing their star attacker leave the club as a free agent once his contract expires in the summer, this could be a very smart signing that would surely have Gerrard buzzing.
