Aston Villa have had a rocky start to their season in terms of the results they have managed to rack up.
With just two wins in eight games, this has put pressure on Steven Gerrard and even led to reports linking Mauricio Pochettino and Unai Emery with the manager position at Villa Park should Gerrard end up leaving.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, insider Dean Jones had this to say on the matter regarding a potential move for Emery, as well as another figure that has experienced what it’s like to manage in the Premier League.
He said: “I think his contract situation means he would be under consideration but I think the same would have to apply to Thomas Tuchel. He’s out of work. You would have to look at managers of that type just in case you could entice them.”
Focusing on Tuchel, after winning a combined total of 165 games across 234 games for Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain, the German took charge of Chelsea back in January last year.
With 99 games under his belt at the helm, the 49-year-old won 62 of them, winning the Champions League in the process, only for him to be sacked back in September.
This highlights the pedigree Tuchel has of managing top clubs, with top players and being successful in doing so, which is something that would surely make him an attractive candidate to replace Gerrard if the Villa hierarchy decides to relieve him of his current duties anytime soon.
With all of that in mind, we feel that Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris have a big decision to make regarding Gerrard’s position and his future at the club. In our view, if results don’t improve and Tuchel remains available and open to taking the Villa job, this is definitely something the club shouldn’t pass up on.
