Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has found himself under pressure as a result of his team’s troubled start to their latest Premier League campaign.
With just two wins from their first eight games, the Villans currently find themselves 14th in the league table.
While there may be some concern about Gerrard’s position at the Midlands club, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has shared some details regarding the 42-year-old’s current situation and his future at Villa Park.
Sheth gives Gerrard his backing
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Sheth stated: “I can’t see a situation where Villa would sack him simply because they tried so hard in the first place to get him. They’ve put a lot of investment, not only in Steven Gerrard, but in the playing squad that Steven Gerrard wanted to bring in as well, so they have backed him in the transfer window.”
Across 37 games in charge of Villa, Gerrard has won 13, drawn seven and lost 17, leaving him with a points-per-match rate of 1.24 – the lowest at any team he has managed across youth and senior level.
While his record may not make for particularly good reading for Villa fans, it will surely be great news for Gerrard that Sheth thinks Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris aren’t likely to sack him anytime soon.
Monday could be pivotal
However, we feel that if results don’t improve, the former Rangers boss should definitely be under scrutiny from his employers.
With Villa set to take on Nottingham Forest on Monday night in their next Premier League clash, this should be a game where the Villans not only look to secure all three points but also put in a team performance which offers hope of a run of good form being launched.
Bearing in mind how Steve Cooper’s side have faced more shot-creating actions (219) than any other team in the top flight this season, this is a game where the Villa players must be thinking they can dominate and ultimately secure victory.
