Aston Villa have not been shy in terms of signing players from fellow English clubs in recent times.
The likes of Douglas Luiz, Ollie Watkins, Emi Buendia, Danny Ings and Calum Chambers have all moved to Villa Park from other clubs around England over the past few years.
With the January transfer window on the way, the Villans have been touted to potentially look at signing another player currently on the books at a Premier League rival.
Van de Beek to Villa?
Earlier this month, 90min reported that Donny van de Beek has been given permission to leave Manchester United in the winter, and transfer insider Dean Jones has stated that Villa manager Steven Gerrard might “need” someone like the 25-year-old to offer a quick fix.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “There are other options that will become available to Van de Beek. Clubs like Aston Villa, who need a fix right now, and by the time we get to January, I’m sure there’ll be two or three others that would like to sign him.”
Van de Beek’s time in England
United signed the midfielder from Ajax in September 2020 in a deal worth a reported £35m. Since then, the Dutchman has gone on to make 53 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions but has only started 19 times.
After making three appearances off the bench in the Premier League at the start of this season, the midfielder then found himself being an unused substitute for United’s following two league matches and has since been out injured with a knock.
His seven league appearances for Everton during his loan spell last season, for a large part of which he was injured, earned Van de Beek a rather uninspiring overall performance rating of 6.47/10 from WhoScored, ranking him a lowly 19th among the Toffees’ squad.
He’d be a risky signing
Having been described as “anonymous” at times for the Toffees by journalist Peter Guy, it’s safe to say that the 25-year-old’s time at Goodison Park was not particularly successful.
This suggests that, even when he has had the opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League, the £120k-per-week midfielder hasn’t shown that he has the quality to do it at a high level.
All of that makes us feel that it would be a risky move from Johan Lange to potentially bring the player to Villa Park in January.
