Aston Villa are among the Premier League clubs monitoring PSG’s rising star Ibrahim Mabyé. Discover the latest on the transfer race, Mabyé’s potential price tag, and why Unai Emery is keen to bring the French wonderkid to Villa Park this summer.
Sky Sports has reported that Aston Villa are one of several Premier League clubs interested in signing PSG’s rising star, Ibrahim Mabye.
The 18-year-old, who has progressed through the French giants academy, is regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting talents. Mbaye made his debut at the age of 16, in the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season opener against Le Havre, becoming the youngest PSG player ever to start a game.
This season, he has regularly featured as a substitute, amassing a total of 25 appearances in all competitions.
Although an international for France at youth level, the youngster recently switched his allegiance to Senegal. He was part of the squad that lifted the African Cup of Nations this year, which has recently been overturned.
Predominantly a right-winger, Mbaye can also play on the left. Known for his speed and strong technical ability, he possesses a fearless mentality who is not afraid of taking on his defender. A move that sees him start regularly would appeal to him, and it’s perhaps something Villa could offer.
| Competition | Starts | Subbed On | Total Games | Goals | Assists |
| Ligue 1 | 9 | 10 | 19 | 1 | 2 |
| Champions League | 1 | 3 | 4 | 0 | 0 |
| UEFA Super Cup | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| FIFA Intercontinental Cup | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| Totals: | 10 | 15 | 25 | 1 | 2 |
To be trusted by Luis Enrique as a game-changer off the bench is significant, given he is only 18. Amassing over 1000 minutes already in senior football provides him with a wealth of experience.
Trust is a huge factor in Unai Emery’s decision to start a player, and if Mbaye already has the foundations of an extremely talented player, then the sky is the limit.
The structure of the deal
The Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell revealed that Villa made an attempt to sign Mbaye in January of this year, but due to the finances involved, no deal materialised.
Making a move this summer will be just as difficult. PSG are in no hurry to sell.
Letting go of one of their brightest prospects, who has been compared to Kylian Mbappe, will only be sanctioned if the fee is right. His contract runs until June 2028, so there is the potential that the French champions could offer him improved terms to ward off interest.
Whether Villa qualify for the Champions League or not will be a crucial factor in attempting to lure Mabaye away from Paris. It will also give them the financial freedom to make some of these moves possible, whereas previously they have been thwarted by their current situation.
As the summer approaches, this is certainly a deal that Villa supporters should watch closely. If they pull it off, then it would be regarded as a significant coup.
