Aston Villa’s loanees were in action once again over the weekend, with 14 featuring across England, Scotland, France, Poland and Austria. The majority are approaching the end point of their seasons.
Let’s take a look at how they got on:
Championship
In the Championship, Lewis Dobbin was once again amongst the goals. The 23-year-old netted his 10th goal of the season in all competitions, scoring the winner in the 76th minute at Bramall Lane to win 3-2 against Sheffield United. With one game to go, Preston find themselves in 12th on 60 points, too far away for a potential play-off place.
Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba, was an unused substitute for West Brom in their 0-0 draw with Ipswich, making it the third time in the last four matches the 19-year-old failed to make an appearance from the bench.
League One heroics for Louie Barry
In what was just his second start since returning from injury, Louie Barry bagged a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Peterborough United, as Stockport County took another step towards qualifying for the League One play-offs.
The forward drew Stockport level with the Posh just before the half-hour mark, with his first goal since rejoining the club on loan in January, before netting another two after the break to complete his treble. With one game to go, they sit in 4th, three points ahead of Luton Town in 7th.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Joe Gauci started his 19th consecutive game as his relegated Port Vale were beaten 2-1 by Plymouth Argyle.
Pair face off in League Two
League Two action saw Sil Swinkels and Tommi O’Reilly face off against one another, as Chesterfield hosted Crewe Alexandra. It was the home side who won 2-0, with Swinkels playing 90 minutes and keeping a clean sheet, while O’Reilly was taken off just after an hour.
Elsewhere, Aidan Borland’s Swindon Town was hammered 4-0 by confirmed play-off qualifiers Grimsby Town. The Scot played the full game, and despite the scoreline, was one of the better players for the Robins.
Kane Taylor also featured as 10-man Oldham Athletic conceded a 108th-minute stoppage-time winner to Newport County, which ended 3-2. Taylor played 63 minutes.
Scotland and France
In Scotland, Ewan Simpson scored Hamilton Academical’s third in their 3-1 win at home to Peterhead. The Midfielder found the back of the net in the 86th minute, helping his side pick up their third successive win.
