Alysson is facing a race against time to play again this season after sustaining yet another injury in training at Bodymoor Heath.
- The 19-year-old Brazilian has made just three Premier League appearances since his £10.5m January arrival
- His latest setback is an adductor injury sustained in training, adding to a catalogue of physical problems
- Alysson was not included in Villa’s Europa League squad for the knockout phase
A debut season defined by the treatment table
The story of Alysson’s first few months at Aston Villa has been one of almost relentless misfortune.
The 19-year-old Brazilian winger arrived from Grêmio in January in a deal worth €12m plus a 10% sell-on clause, a signing that generated genuine excitement given his raw talent and the developmental potential that attracted Villa’s recruitment team in the first place.
However, from the very beginning, the teenager’s availability has been comprehensively undermined by a succession of physical setbacks.
A knee injury in his first couple of training sessions delayed his debut by an entire month. A subsequent muscle issue in February caused him to have a groin problem in March that ruled him out for three further weeks.
His most recent appearance came as a substitute in the 73rd minute of Villa’s 4-1 home defeat against Chelsea, a game now several weeks behind him.
The latest injury blow. Adductor problem in training
The most recent setback is an adductor injury sustained in training: the fifth significant physical problem the teenager has encountered since arriving in January.
That accumulation of different injury types across such a short period raises legitimate questions about the physical preparation and load management surrounding a player making the significant step up from Brazilian football to the Premier League for the first time.
Villa did not include Alysson in their Europa League squad for the knockout phase, using their three permitted January alterations on Tammy Abraham, Douglas Luiz, and the returning Leon Bailey.
His European involvement this season therefore remains entirely absent, a deeply unfortunate reality for a player signed with genuine long-term ambition in mind.
Race against time: City away is the target
Sources close to the player, speaking on the condition of anonymity, have suggested there is hope Alysson could return to fitness in time for the final week of Villa’s season, most likely the trip to Manchester City.
That target provides a timeline of approximately two weeks for the adductor injury to resolve: an achievable but tight recovery window that Villa’s medical staff will be managing carefully.
| Alysson Villa Injury Log | Issue | Period |

A summer reset is now essential
Whatever happens in the coming weeks, we must view Alysson’s debut Villa season as a near-total write-off through no lack of effort or desire.
The club or the player did not envisage three Premier League appearances across a full campaign when they completed the January deal.
A full pre-season, without the disruption of mid-season integration, represents the genuine starting point for his Villa career. The talent is there. The body simply has not cooperated
