The Super Cup, where the season begins
Before a single Premier League football game is played, Villa face their first major occasion of the 2026-27 campaign. The UEFA Super Cup against PSG takes place on Wednesday 12 August at Stadion Salzburg in Austria. Europa League holders against Champions League holders. Emery against one of Europe’s most formidable squads. Kick-off at 8pm BST.
It is the perfect opening statement for a season that will be contested entirely at the highest level. Win in Salzburg, as Villa did when they last appeared in this fixture against Barcelona in 1982, and the tone is set emphatically for everything that follows.
The Premier League. Fixtures confirmed on June 19th
Villa supporters will not have to wait long for the first competitive domestic information of the season. Premier League fixtures are revealed on Friday 19 June at 10am, giving supporters their first look at the full 38-game schedule that will run alongside the Champions League campaign.
The opening weekend falls on 22-23 August, just ten days after the Super Cup and eight days after the Borussia Mönchengladbach pre-season friendly on 15 August. The season finale arrives on Sunday 30 May 2027. A long, demanding and entirely thrilling campaign awaits.
The Champions League. Eight games to reach the knockout rounds
The league phase draw takes place on Thursday 27 August, four days after the opening Premier League weekend. Aston Villa enter as Pot 2 seeds, confirmed alongside Borussia Dortmund, Roma, Manchester United, Porto, Club Brugge, Real Betis and PSV Eindhoven.
Pot 1 contains the competition’s elite: PSG, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Arsenal, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. Villa’s pre-season fixture against Bayern Munich in Hong Kong and the Super Cup against PSG mean two Pot 1 opponents will already be familiar before the draw takes place.
The eight league phase matchdays run from September 2026 through to January 2027:
| Matchday | Date |
|---|---|
| Matchday 1 | 8-10 September 2026 |
| Matchday 2 | 13/14 October 2026 |
| Matchday 3 | 20/21 October 2026 |
| Matchday 4 | 3/4 November 2026 |
| Matchday 5 | 24/25 November 2026 |
| Matchday 6 | 8/9 December 2026 |
| Matchday 7 | 19/20 January 2027 |
| Matchday 8 | 27 January 2027 |
The knockout road. All the way to Madrid
The knockout phase begins in February with play-offs for clubs finishing ninth to 24th. The round of 16 follows in March. Quarter-finals in April. Semi-finals across late April and early May. And the final, at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid, on Saturday 5 June 2027.
The Metropolitano hosted its first European Cup final in 2019 with Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham. It will stage its second in 2027. Emery’s Villa will be aiming to be there. The road begins in Salzburg on 12 August.
