Alysson’s first Aston Villa pre-season now carries more weight than a routine fitness block after an injury-hit opening spell under Unai Emery.
The Brazilian winger joined Villa from Gremio in January, with his official club profile confirming his route from the Gremio academy into Emery’s squad. His first months in England, though, were repeatedly interrupted before he could build proper rhythm.
That makes July important. Villa are not simply waiting for a young wide player to develop. They need to know whether Alysson can handle the intensity of Emery’s environment without another stop-start spell.
Emery Has A Live Alysson Integration Call
Transfermarkt’s injury record lists a groin issue running from April into June, following earlier muscle and knock problems during the second half of the campaign. That context gives his pre-season a sharper edge.
There is obvious upside. Alysson arrived as a long-term attacking bet, and Villa’s expanded summer schedule gives him a cleaner runway before competitive decisions arrive.
The confirmed Walsall opener and later overseas fixtures should offer the first real evidence of where he stands. Fitness will matter, but so will how quickly he absorbs Emery’s demands out of possession.
Read Aston Villa has already analysed Alysson’s injury-hit start at Villa, and the next stage now has to move from explanation to evidence.
Villa need internal solutions this summer because the squad is balancing Champions League demands, domestic targets and financial pressure. A young winger who can cover minutes, stretch games and grow inside the first-team group would help.
The sharper question is whether Alysson can force himself into the tour picture quickly enough to become more than a development project.
If he does, Emery gains a useful wide option without going back into the market. If he does not, Villa’s attacking depth conversation becomes harder to ignore.
