Aston Villa defender Andrés García is reportedly close to joining Getafe on a season-long loan after struggling to secure regular football under Unai Emery.
The 23-year-old is expected to complete his return to Spain later this week. Villa believe consistent minutes in La Liga would provide the best route for his development.
García joined Villa from Levante in January 2025 for a reported fee of around £5m. However, he has made only 18 senior appearances since arriving at Villa Park.
His only Premier League start last season came in the final-day victory over Manchester City. Emery replaced him at half-time as Villa completed a 2-1 win.
The Birmingham Mail reports that Getafe are close to agreeing the loan, with García expected to receive more regular opportunities in Spain.
Villa need another option behind Matty Cash
A temporary departure would leave Matty Cash as Villa’s only established senior right-back.
Kosta Nedeljković has returned following his loan spell with RB Leipzig, but his long-term position in Emery’s squad remains unclear. Villa are therefore expected to recruit further defensive cover before the transfer window closes.
ReadAstonVilla previously reported that Villa had opened talks over a possible move for Emerson Royal. The Flamengo defender has emerged as a possible source of competition for Cash.
García’s departure would make another right-back signing increasingly important. Emery requires defenders who can support Villa’s build-up play while also coping with the physical demands of the Premier League.
A season at Getafe could still benefit García’s Villa career. He remains under contract and would return with more senior experience if the move does not include an option to buy.
For now, the proposed loan reflects his limited route to minutes at Villa Park and Emery’s intention to reshape both sides of his defence this summer.
