Aston Villa have been putting a square peg in a round hole with Douglas Luiz operating as a makeshift defensive-midfielder, but Steven Gerrard will address the issue this summer by bringing in a natural deep-lying player to shield the backline. Marvelous Nakamba can provide cover in front of the defence but has been sidelined with […]
Aston Villa travel to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, April 2 and are likely to make changes after suffering consecutive Premier League defeats. Steven Gerrard had Emiliano Buendia and Phillipe Coutinho operating behind Ollie Watkins as roaming No.10s in Villa’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, but the duo didn’t see a lot of the […]
Wesley Moraes was loaned out to Club Brugge last summer in a bid to get more playing time, but his injury-laden stint was cut short and a move to Internacional followed in January. The 25-year-old’s fortunes haven’t fared much better in Brazil, however, with playing time continuing to be sporadic, so his temporary move away […]
Ally Samatta was sold to Fenerbahce last summer after being deemed surplus to requirements at Aston Villa, but his move away from the Midlands hasn’t gone to plan. The 29-year-old was immediately loaned out by the Super Lig outfit and has struggled for form and playing time at his new club. Samatta joined Aston Villa […]
Aston Villa aren’t short of strikers with Ollie Watkins, Danny Ings, Cameron Archer and Keinan Davis, but Archer may not command a starting place next season as he’s still developing out on loan while Davis might be offloaded permanently after falling down the pecking order. Ings hasn’t had the best debut campaign at Villa Park […]
Danny Ings hasn’t had the best debut season at Aston Villa, raising uncertainty over his future this summer. The 29-year-old has scored only five goals in 23 Premier League games, just two of which have come in their last 15 outings, so he’s played second fiddle to Ollie Watkins under Steven Gerrard. Ings has started […]
Steven Gerrard was appointed Head Coach of Aston Villa in November and said he hoped to bring European football back to the Midlands. Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens invested heavily in January to give Gerrard a stronger squad for his top-six push, but Villa are likely to fall short this season. They’re currently 9th in […]
Aston Villa are expected to sign a defensive-midfielder this summer as Steven Gerrard doesn’t believe Marvelous Nakamba and Morgan Sanson are good enough to operate in front of the back four. The Villa manager concedes Douglas Luiz isn’t a natural in the deep-lying role either, so a new face should be brought in ahead of […]
Aston Villa aren’t short of ball-winning midfielders with Marvelous Nakamba and Morgan Sanson at their disposal, but Steven Gerrard wants a defensive-midfielder who can shield the backline as Douglas Luiz isn’t a natural in the role. Villa missed out on Rodrigo Bentancur and failed to sign Yves Bissouma in January, so they’re turning their attentions […]
Aston Villa were seventh in the Premier League for goals conceded (46) and third in the league for clean sheets (15) last season, but they’ve not been at their defensive best this campaign. The Midlands outfit are 12th in the league for goals conceded and seventh in the league for clean sheets, so they’ve tailed […]
Aston Villa suffered their second consecutive Premier League defeat on Saturday afternoon, losing 1-0 to Arsenal at home, and Philippe Coutinho put in another disappointing display. The 29-year-old was quiet in Villa’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham United and didn’t set the place alight against the Gunners either, failing to score or make an assist […]
Aston Villa suffered a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday afternoon and Jacob Ramsey was one of many players who underperformed. The 20-year-old started alongside John McGinn and Douglas Luiz in midfield but struggled to Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey. Ramsey failed to create a chance, didn’t see a lot of the ball, was guilty […]
